Here are the reports from our four Wildcats girls’ matches played yesterday (Saturday, October 19th).

After a couple of weeks without a game, the Wildcats U12s welcomed Pen Mill to Rockwell Green following a pitch inspection.

Peyton A with coach Stuart Sutton.

Pen Mill tore up the script in the early going, scoring within the first two minutes and then nearly doubling the lead immediately afterwards, only a last-ditch sliding tackle from Peyton A keeping them at bay.

The Wildcats then switched on and utilised the long throw of Mary H, Bella W latched on to a pair of them to make it 2-1 at half-time.

For the first time this season, the Wildcats found themselves under sustained pressure, but they battled away, and, on the counter, Amelia S picked the ball up on the right hand side and pinged one across the keeper to make it 3-1.

Iyla J then won the ball on the wing, crossed a lovely ball into Madeline HW who smashed it home to increase the advantage before Pen Mill scored from range from the kick off to make it 4-2.

The victory was sealed with another long throw from Mary H into the box, the resulting goalmouth scramble ending with an own goal to seal a 5-2 victory.

Player-of-the-match went to Peyton A in defence for a brave and mature performance, although the entire squad should be proud of their display against very determined opposition.

The Wildcats U13s faced off against Watchet Town at the Rec and the game started with some fluent attacking at both ends.

Alisha J with manager Pete Winter.

Watchet scored after four minutes, but the Wildcats backline held a tight line and were offering stiff resistance to the visitors’ attacking play.

The Wildcats created chances of their own, but on 24 minutes a chipped shot doubled the Watchet lead and, shortly after, another goal made it 3-0.

Still looking to attack Faith D broke free down the right, crossing into the box to find Flo N. The keeper couldn’t keep her shot out and it was it 3-1 at half-time.

The Wildcats made some substitutions and formation changes which helped to keep the game tightly contested and competitive.

Watchet made it 4-1 after 43 minutes, but the Wildcats response was swift, Flo N scoring her second of the game, beating the keeper at the second attempt to make it 4-2.

As the game entered the final quarter, Watchet produced some good attacking football and, despite the valiant efforts of the Wildcats, the game ended with an 8-2 defeat.

Alisha J was named player-of-the-match for her display on the left wing.

There were many positives to come out of this performance – going toe-to-toe with title contenders for three-quarters of the game demonstrated the progress the team is making.

The Wildcats U14s made it four wins in a row with a comfortable yet physical 5-0 victory over Pen Mill at the Westfield Academy in Yeovil.

McKayla H

Playing on a 3G pitch, the Wildcats made all the running in the first half.

Some good passing through midfield allowed Emilia S free to score the opening two goals and Faith NH added a third before Emilia completed another first-half hat-trick by calmy slotting past the charging keeper to make it 4-0 at the break.

The second half was more of an even contest with the defence and keeper having to work harder, but their teamwork and efforts ultimately gave nothing away.

The counter attacking play created opportunities and Faith NH completed the scoring with a stunning turning volley from 20 yards – a superb piece of technical skill.

Player-of-the-match went to Mckayla H for her efforts on the wing – her sheer determination was a standout feature with her never-give-up attitude.

All of the 13 girls need to be commended for their conduct, letting their communication, team spirit and footballing skill do the talking – congratulations!

The Wildcats U16s were outstanding throughout the game against Bishops Lydeard and thoroughly deserved their 3-1 victory.

Jasmine S with coach Bianca Hamlyn.

Having not beaten Lydeard for five years, the Wildcats knew they would be in for a tough morning but, for much of the game, they were the superior team.

Lola H scored after five minutes, and could have added a couple more, before Lydeard equalised in bizarre circumstances in the 18th minute as he ball appeared to be kicked out of the Wildcats keeper’s hand.

Not to be deterred, they pushed forward, and Lola H added her second in the 28th minute.

The game was well balanced for the rest of the half with neither team testing the goalkeepers.

Wildcats continued in the same vein throughout the second half despite Lola H being carried off with a knee injury.

Milly H saw an excellent strike hit the crossbar following a superb save from the Lydeard keeper.

Orlaith C then added Wildcats’ third, hitting the bottom corner with a well-placed shot.

At the other end, Wildcats’ superb defence limited the shots on their goal and, when they were breached, Lydeard found Jasmine S in excellent form in goal.

There were outstanding performances from all 12 players, but special mentions go to Julia R who was exceptional – playing out of position at centre-back – and to Tori S and Lauren N, both having their first starts this season.

However, Wildcats’ player-of-the-match was keeper Jasmine S.
