Well done to Wellington United U12s, who secured their first win of the season by beating Sydenham Rangers 5-3 away from home.

A bit of a slow start saw Wellington go 1-0 down in the first seven minutes,

Wellington turned up the pressure after conceding and hit back at Sydenham after 24 minutes with Blake Mead scoring the equaliser, shortly followed by goals from Leo Upham (26 minutes) and Harry Newstead (28).

The half-time whistle went with United 3-1 up.

The second half was end-to-end until a lovely chip over the keeper from Caleb Jackman-Hughes after 45 minutes hit the back of the net,

Wellington conceded a penalty shortly after and it was scored by the ever-pressing Sydenham side.

Wellington conceded a third goal, only to hit back after 55 minutes through Jack McDonald.

Manager Steve Newstead said afterwards: “I’m so proud of the boys – we’re a brand-new team this season and we are starting to click into place. Things are on the up, for sure”

Coach Richard Upham added: “I’m so happy for the lads – we couldn’t have asked for more.”

Wellington’s player-of-the-match was Blake Mead and player-of-the-match (chosen by the opposition coach) was Caleb Jackman-Hughes.
