The teams in our youth section came together for a fun event yesterday (Sunday, August 25th) and even set an unofficial world record.

Their first Club Day proved a big success and is now set to be held every year.

Among the activities, all the players gathered to take on the world’s best tally for the number of penalties taken in an hour.

The official record of 1,302 spot kicks is held by a school in India.

But after 60 frantic minutes, with senior keepers Bianca Hamlyn and Rob Hall taking turns in goal, the Wellington players had notched up a remarkable 2,614 penalties.

We are now hoping to make an official attempt on the record during the season.

Other activities during the day include inter-club matches and a Beat the Keeper competition. There was also raffle and barbecue.

Organiser John Norman said: “We had a great time and want to make it an annual event.

“We’d like to thank everyone who came along – particularly all those who helped out on the day.”

Beat the Keeper winners: U10s and below, Logan Thorpe; U11s to U14s, Toby Milne; U15s to U16s, Riley Newland.
