It may still be July but our new season kicks off tomorrow (Saturday, July 27th).

We begin with a trip to Ilfracombe Town in the premier division of the Western League, now sponsored by Jewson.

The Tangerines, managed by Richard Cherry, will be looking to improve on their 15th-place finish in 2023-24.

We improved throughout Cherry’s first season in charge and our run-in included victory over eventual champions Helston Athletic and an injury time defeat by runners-up Falmouth Town.

Cherry has made a number of new signings during the summer including the return of striker Jake Quick from Axminster Town.

There are also two new midfielders – Sam Sheldrake, also signed from Axminster, and Oscar Albano, who was previously with Bishops Lydeard.

After tomorrow, the games come thick and fast for Wellington although we are unable to play at home because of cricket on the Playing Field.

On Tuesday, we are away to Nailsea and Tickenham ahead of an FA Cup tie at Buckland Athletic the following Saturday.
